Made from 2 ½ inches of rigid foam insulation and ½-inch concrete cladding, these attractive walls are finished with a vinyl surface treatment to give them an appealing domestic look. This combination also eliminates the need for fiberglass batts while providing an R-value of R-13 and a wall system that is 197% stronger than traditional drywall. For his flooring, the homeowner selected ThermalDry carpet and vinyl tiles. ThermalDry is an aesthetic but functional flooring solution specifically designed for basements. It comes in 1’x1’ tiles that snap together with interlocking joints for easy installation. Each tile is made from inorganic materials that will not be damaged by moisture or support mold growth. The tiles also sit on small plastic pegs that create a thermal barrier between the tile and the existing concrete floor, which keeps ThermalDry 8-10 degrees warmer than the cold concrete below.
